There were (at least) 27 users who lost their home directory entirely. These users are:
ahkitj alaster alecss alpha andris angeltek aztek bambi bmf bobshoe brendan cappa danish dj_phatt envynet flawax ironiq lkp loose narnia1 nash oapiey pubcrwlr ryancp smokey stealth xiI've re-created empty home directories with Mailboxes and webspace for each of these users. Sadly, all data held once held by these users is gone. I highly suspect that others will find random subdirectories of their websites missing entirely. This extremely unfortunate crash is pushing us much harder to get the upgrades done that we are working on, which include a brand-new file server with hardware RAID and journaling filesystems. Bobshoe has graciously offered to let us use his tape backup as well. I'll also be implementing an off-site backup strategy when I get the time. I'll be damned if this sort of data loss happens again. | |
