Web CGIs and Internal Server Errors... 2001-12-27 11:50:03
by lmbedore
As many people have noticed, our servers have been spitting out Internal Server Errors occasionally w hen accessing CGIs. I am still not 100% certain as to the core cause of this problem, but I do know that the errors are being caused by memory allocation failure. Thus far, the problem appears to be at the kernel-level, though there may be more to it. I will be rebooting the server later today with a newer kernel, hopefully resolving the issue.

I told you there was a problem.

Well, the problem is still occurring. It seems to occur once out of every thousand CGI executions, approximately. It may be related to some test modules I've been working with. I'll try pulling those out and see how it goes.

It seems better as of lately. It was really frequent about 2 weeks ago. Maybe it was the full moon...

Har har. NT. *smirk*

The RAM leaks are even worse under the newest kernel, so I moved us back to an older one. Losing 25mb a day isn't exactly my idea of fun. Even chester, which is hardly doing anything, is losing like 18mb a day, which it wasn't losing before the new kernel. Now if I could only find someone else who's noticing this problem, life would be good...

I just put 2.4.17 on my fileserver here. So, I'll watch the RAM usage for you.

GNOME has lots of RAM leaks. These kernel RAM leaks are brand spanking new.
