Hard drives finally ordered 2002-08-16 17:03:32
by lmbedore
After tons of flack about the hard drive order I made (and 5 vendors later), I've kicked up the order to double the original price, but it also gives us about 340gb useable main file space and doubles the per-server space from 20gb to 40gb.

I grabbed a spare 40gb in case an OS drive burns out, but couldn't afford another data drive. There's something unnerving about spending my entire paycheck on hard drives that kept me from buying one.. or maybe the fact that I need to eat SOMETHING in the next 2 weeks :)

Best of all, the chosen vendor had all items in stock and has already shipped them! They're on the cross-country trip from California and will probably arrive on thursday or friday.

Sweet! The drives have already made their way through atlanta and are in Florida. Looks like we'll get them Wednesday, in time for Thursday's staff meeting.

NewEgg is my new favorite vendor. Hard drives, RAID cards, drive sleds, cables, all in stock, all shipped quickly, and all done without selling my email address to some spam-mail list.

hahah.. wow. I didn't realize until I just added it up.. I bought a LOT of disk space!
7-40gb drives (280 gigs)
4-120gb drives (480 gigs)
Add that up... 760 gigs! That's 3/4 of a terabyte! Wow! I never dreamed of the day that I'd be talking about our disk capacity in terms of terabytes.

The drives have been delivered. We'll be doing initial some initial testing today of the drive array structure. Super cool.
