Mail CGIs disabled 2002-07-16 11:19:25
by lmbedore
All mail CGIs have been disabled. No sending of mail from a CGI can be done by using the 'sendmail' mechanism. In the future, we might re-establish this feature with our own custom-written version.

The problem is that the 'sendmail' mechanism bypasses the anti-spam security measures in place on our server by pushing mail straight into the mail queue. If we get around to writing a replacement for it, it will act the same to the user, but will send the mail by SMTP through our server, which will give the server a chance to enforce its anti-spam rules.

Yes. Anything that tries to use the 'sendmail' mechanism to send mail can no longer do so.

Note about Webmail: Any emails sent by webmail between 7/16/02 at about 12:00 GMT until 7/17/02 at about 22:00 GMT were not delivered. This was due to the security measures put into place with 'sendmail'. Sending email through webmail works again.

Figures that as soon as a learn php to be able to do that very thing, it quits on me. That explains the unexplainable errors...
